In this article, a failure prediction analysis is carried out by staggering the rigid pavement structure proposed in the concrete pavement design manual of INVIAS, for a transit category T5, subgrade type S2, concrete breakage module Mr4, load transfer with voussoirs without lateral confinement, and natural subgrade support material through the use of the NAPCOM rigid pavement deterioration prediction model, carrying out a sensitivity analysis by varying the diametre values of voussoirs and CBR of the subgrade . The following analysis is justified in the determination of the behavior in its useful life to the faults by staggering because the evaluation of the causes and deterioration of the structures is beyond the scope of this manual

Magnetic field variations and the seismicity of solar active regions

Dynamical changes in the solar corona have proven to be very important in inducing seismic waves into the photosphere. Different mechanisms for their generation have been proposed. In this work, we explore the magnetic field forces as plausible mechanisms to generate sunquakes as proposed by Hudson, Fisher and Welsch. We present a spatial and temporal analysis of the line-of-sight magnetic field variations induced by the seismically active 2003 October 29 and 2005 January 15 solar flares and compare these results with other supporting observations.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, letter, Accepted in February by MNRA

The 2010 August 01 type II burst: A CME-CME Interaction, and its radio and white-light manifestations

We present observational results of a type II burst associated with a CME-CME interaction observed in the radio and white-light wavelength range. We applied radio direction-finding techniques to observations from the STEREO and Wind spacecraft, the results of which were interpreted using white-light coronagraphic measurements for context. The results of the multiple radio-direction finding techniques applied were found to be consistent both with each other and with those derived from the white-light observations of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). The results suggest that the Type II burst radio emission is causally related to the CMEs interaction.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, Accepted to ApJ: January 16, 201

Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager observations of linear polarization from a loop prominence system

White-light observations by the Solar Dynamics Observatory's Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager of a loop-prominence system occurring in the aftermath of an X-class flare on 2013 May 13 near the eastern solar limb show a linearly polarized component, reaching up to \sim20% at an altitude of \sim33 Mm, about the maximal amount expected if the emission were due solely to Thomson scattering of photospheric light by the coronal material. The mass associated with the polarized component was 8.2×\times1014^{14} g. At 15 Mm altitude, the brightest part of the loop was 3(+/-0.5)% linearly polarized, only about 20% of that expected from pure Thomson scattering, indicating the presence of an additional unpolarized component at wavelengths near Fe I (617.33 nm), probably thermal emission. We estimated the free electron density of the white-light loop system to possibly be as high as 1.8×\times1012^{12} cm3^{-3}.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

Analysis of electricity markets with constraints

    Get PDF
Constraint satisfaction techniques are mechanisms that can be used to ensure that all transactions in a electricity market can be completed without violating any operating limits. This is an important issue in an electricity market, because an improper handling of the constraints can divide the system and have a significant impact on the ability of the individual players to exercise market power. The main purpose of this paper is to present a methodology to guarantee a safe unit commitment in normal operation and after contingencies, using re-dispatch techniques after a topological analysis
